About the National Innovation Forum
The Zimbabwe Young Academy of Sciences’ National Innovation Policy Forum is a multi-stakeholder platform that brings together government, industry, and research leaders from Zimbabwe and around the world to discuss current challenges and opportunities in developing and implementing Zimbabwe’s innovation policy.
The Forum provides an opportunity for leading experts to advance Science, Technology & Innovation, identify critical policy issues, and collaborate to examine and address the policy issues by regularly exchanging information on current and potential innovation policies. It highlights a constant theme within the Young Academy on addressing policy issues relevant to promoting Science, Technology & Innovation as a driver of economic and social development through supporting basic and applied research.
Through the Forum, different stakeholders are informed about priority policy issues through published policy briefs, reports, studies, and opinion pieces.
Summary
The inaugural National Innovation Policy Forum will gather virtually to discuss the role of science and policy interactions as a catalyst for innovation. Participants will have a unique opportunity to interact with national leaders in government, industry, and research institutes on critical policy issues and discuss strategies for building sustainable science-policy interaction infrastructure for the future.

Guest Speaker
Yasmine Finbow
Yasmine has a BA in History from the University of Sheffield and an MA in Conflict Studies and Human Rights from Utrecht University. She conducted research on the asymmetric power relation between UN military and civil relations in Haiti. She previously worked in the commercial events sector and at a humanitarian NGO.
Panelists
Dr. Eng. Talon Garikayi
Talon has a BEng in Mechatronics from the Chinhoyi University of Technology, an MEng in Manufacturing Engineering from the National University of Science and Technology, and a PhD in Mechatronics from Stellenbosch University. He is the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization at Harare Institute of Technology. Talon has extensively published books and research articles on biomechatronics, bionics, and artificial Intelligence.
Dr. Wilfred Njabulo Nunu
Wilfred has a BSc in Environmental Science and Health from the National University of Science and Technology, MPH from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a PhD from the University of Venda. He is a lecturer at NUST in the Department of Environmental Science and Health where he conducts research in public health. Wilfred has published more than 20 research articles in international journals.
Lesley Marange
Lesley has a BSc in Food Science and Technology from Chinhoyi University of Technology and an MBA from the National University of Science and Technology. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Glytime Foods, an award winning food processing and packaging company in Zimbabwe.
